November 3                                                                                                                                                                     &nb sp;                                       “Grace and Truth”

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of Grace and Truth. . . and of His fullness have we all received and Grace for grace—for the Law was given by Moses, but Grace and Truth came by Jesus Christ.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       John 1:14, 16-17

For every disappointment—when our dreams have been dashed on “the hard rocks of reality”—we find His Grace and Truth there, waiting on us.

     Heartaches.

The longer we live, the more they seem to multiply.  For some, they start in early childhood in a sin-ravaged home where little or no love is shown.  And, so often in those dysfunctional environments where no peace is found, deceit and manipulation are also ever-present.

That’s why we must continually come to Jesus—for He is “full of Grace and Truth”—and when we “abide in Him and He abides in us” (Jn. 15:1-7) we discover He brings these two wonderful Gifts with Him.

     Let’s face it:

We all need Grace.  Grace to face our trials or simply another day.  Grace to deal with those whose ways are so unloving and unkind.  Grace to endure when “life’s not fair” or we feel we’ve “been dealt a bad hand.”

And, in the midst of it all we also need Truth—especially in this day-and-age of “lovers of self, covetousness, proud boasters, blasphemers, ingratitude, no natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, no self-control, fierce despisers of those who are good, traitors, high-minded lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof” (II Tim. 3:2-5a).

To them, everything is relative.  There is not absolute Truth.  There’s only what’s “right in his/her own eyes” (Ps. 36:2; Prov. 12:15; 16:2; 21:2; 30:12; Is. 5:21).  Thus, when we’re rooted in the Truth of God’s Word. . .and seeking to live it out in our daily lives. . .we can rest assured we’ll also need His Grace operating in our lives.

     Why is that?

Because “men love darkness more than light; in fact, they hate the light and will not come to it because their deeds are evil and they don’t want them exposed or examined” (Jn. 3:19-20).  But, instead of allowing this to discourage us or lead us to the point of despair, we must continually rest in His Grace and “walk in His Truth, which will reveal Whose we are” to a lost-and-dying world (Jn. 3:21).

His Grace to sustain us and His Truth to guide us.

What else, other than these, do we need to be “more than conquerors through Him that loved us” (Rom. 8:37)?  Nothing at all.  May the Holy Spirit help us to champion both of these today in our dealings with others that they, too, may come to know Jesus, the Heaven-sent Giver of Grace and Truth.
