Subject: Morning Manna (Oct. 24); BP: Acts 2:14-41; RBTTY: I Tim. 4; Jer. 3-5

October 24 “Questions of the Ages”

“Now, when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart and said unto
Peter and to the rest of the Apostles, ‘Men and brethren, what shall we
do’?”
Acts 2:37
Our answers reveal where we are and where we’ll go.
Those asking the question in today’s Manna did so from a sense of great
conviction and desperation. Peter’s sermon was Spirit-anointed and his
words—especially the ones that told them “wicked hand crucified and slew
God’s Anointed and Appointed” (v.23) and they were the ones who’d “crucified
Jesus, Who was/is both Lord and the Promised Messiah/Christ” (v.36)—“pricked
(Grk. ‘katanusso’—‘to pierce thoroughly, agitate violently, sting to the
quick, etc.’) in their heart.” Simply put, they were at an eternal “moment
of decision” and had to decide once again, “What will you do with Jesus?”
(Mk. 15:12).

Thankfully, they heeded Peter’s admonition to “repent and be baptized”
(v.41). Such is not always the case; others will harden their hearts and
stiffen their necks against the Holy Spirit’s convicting. That’s why it’s
important that we both hear and heed the Lord’s Voice when He asks us the
“Questions of the Ages” either by His Spirit or others’ mouths.

Think of it:
The first recorded question God ever asked was in the Garden of Eden
after Adam and Eve had sinned. They were hiding and He asked, “Adam, where
are you?” (Gen. 3:9). When Adam responded, He then asked “Who told you that
you were naked? Have you eaten of the forbidden fruit?” (v.11)

Did our omniscient God not know where they were and what they’d done?
Yes, He knew; He always knows. That’s why His questions to us are of
eternal importance, as are our answers. Down through the centuries there
have been many others questions that still demand an answer of every person
and generation. Some of these include:

“If a man dies, shall he live again?” (Job 14:14). “Whom shall I send
and who will go for us?” (Is. 6:8). “Son of man, can these bones live
again?” (Ez. 37:3). “Will you also go away?” (Jn. 6:67). “Lord, to Whom
shall we go?” (Jn. 6:68) “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?. .
.Whom say you that I am?” (Mt. 16:13, 15) “Lord, what would You have me to
do?” (Acts 9:6)? “If God be for us, Who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31).
“Who/what shall separate us from the love of Christ?” (Rom. 8:35). “For
what is your life?” (James 4:14).

Again, our answers to these questions determine our direction and
destiny. That’s why we should always be very careful in how we answer them.
And, we should always seek to answer them the way the Lord Himself would;
otherwise, we shall soon find ourselves estranged from and in opposition to
Him. May the Holy Spirit help us today to ask, “Who is like unto You, O
Lord?” (Ex. 15:11a) and to then respond, “No one—for He is Savior and Lord
of my life.” Amen and amen.
