Can We Count on You to Buy Local this Thanksgiving?

Can we count on you to “buy local” when you shop for your Thanksgiving dinner this year? I’m writing to ask you to take our “Keep It Local” pledge to buy and use more food grown and raised on nearby farms and ranches and to support our “Growing Local” efforts.

Every minute of every day, two acres of prime farmland are lost forever to unplanned development—mostly land near our cities that produce over three-quarters of our fruits and vegetables and two-thirds of America’s dairy products. Each time a farm goes under...

...another farm family goes out of business...and another farmers market stall closes down. Concrete and asphalt replace meadows and wetlands...wildlife begins to disappear...yards become more prone to flooding...and local water quality is diminished.

But you can help us break this destructive chain of events when you support our Growing Local initiative by taking the following two steps today:

1.  Make a special tax-deductible gift to our fall 2009 Growing Local campaign. We are aiming to raise $118,000 over the next four weeks to advance AFT’s most crucial work.

2. Take our “Keep It Local” pledge and let us pinpoint where we wield the consumer clout that can help us save local farms and farmland.

Thank you again for your past support...and Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Jon Scholl Signature
