Tell Congress to Override the Presidents Veto of the 2008 Farm Bill

Dear Agriculture,

Call or email your legislators now and urge them to override the President's veto!

The final moment for the farm bill has arrived. Today, President Bush vetoed the 2008 Farm Bill, which passed last week by an overwhelming majority in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

We cannot let all the hard work that went into this historic new farm bill go to waste. The bill contains significant advancements to expand consumer access to healthy and local foods; improvements and increased funding for critical conservation programs like the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP) and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP); as well as funding for a new program to help farmers protect the Chesapeake Bay. It also takes an important first step toward subsidy reform.

Call Congress now and ask your legislators to overturn the President's veto of this important bill.

Or, if you would prefer, send an e-mail to your Senators and Representative.

Although there are still many areas needing improvement in the 2008 Farm Bill, this bill is still far better than the alternative: an extension of the 2002 Farm Bill. In addition to better funding for conservation and local food, the 2008 Farm Bill makes real gains in subsidy reform by transforming how commodity programs operate and by providing better protection from risk for farmers while freeing up money for other priorities such as nutrition and conservation.

Thank you for helping us send a message to Congress that we must override the President's veto to keep our nation's farm and food policy on track. We appreciate your continued support!

Sincerely,
Jimmy Daukas
