May 24                                                                                                             “Our Ultimate Satisfaction”

“As for me, I will behold Your Face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with Your likeness.”

                                                                                                                                                    Psalm 17:15

It’ll only take one look, but it’ll last us for all eternity.

     His Face.

For now we only catch brief glimpses of it, like one trying to peer through a smoke-hazed windowpane.  Through meditation upon God’s Word we read of the things Jesus said and did, seeking to retain them in our thoughts and emulate them in our deeds.

But, they’re only momentary glimpses—fleeting ones at best (I Cor. 13:12a); yet, we know that one Day, that which we now see “in part” will one day be fully revealed when we see Him face-to-Face.  And what a day that will be!  Glory!!

Although David, the shepherd-king, had never seen the God of Abraham face-to-Face, through meditation upon His Word his fertile mind painted a mental mosaic of Him.  Like a royal King in regal robes, seated upon His throne, David knew the Lord God would “attend unto his cry and give ear unto his prayer which arose from sincere lips” (v.1).

Likewise, the “man after God’s own heart” (I Sam. 13:14), had “purposed that his mouth would not transgress against the Lord” (v.3).  He knew the true and living God of Israel would continue to “hold up his goings in His paths, so his feet would not slip” (v.5) and would “keep him as the apple of His eye and hide him under the shadow of His wings” (v.8).

No wonder he said, “As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness.”  He knew that sin separates us from full intimacy with God for now; but, one of these days we shall be completely transformed by His mighty power and finally be able to “look upon His beautiful, perfect, Holy Face in righteousness.”  And, what will be the result of this?

     Satisfaction.  Sole, soul-satisfaction.  Never-going-to-hunger-and-thirst-after-anything-or-anyone-ever-again satisfaction.

Won’t that be a wonderful Day, Pilgrim??

     Glory!!

Yes, it’ll only take one look. . .a brief look into His eyes. . .to cause us to fall down at His Feet in gratitude. . .and to spend the rest of eternity praising His Name.  Again, won’t that be a wonderful Day, Pilgrim?  Assuredly it will.

No wonder we’ll be “satisfied” (Heb. “saba”—“to be satiated, be fulfilled, to have an over-abundance of, have plenty, etc.”)!  Never again will disappointment, discontent or discouragement find lodging in our heart and mind.  Never again will tears of sorrow and heartache run down our cheeks.  Instead, we shall quietly bow our heads and say, “Thank you, Jesus.  You’re my All-in-All.”  Hallelujah!!
