Subject: Morning Manna Aug. 22--BP: Jer. 14; RBTTY: I Cor. 5; Ps. 110-112

August 22                                                            “False Prophets and Coming Swords”

“Then said I, ‘Ah, Lord God!  Behold, the prophets say unto them, ‘You shall not see the sword; neither shall you have famine—but I will give you assured peace in this place.’  Then, the Lord said unto me, ‘The prophets prophesy lies in My Name.  I sent them not, neither have I commanded them; neither spoke I unto them.  They prophesy unto you a false vision and a divination and a thing of naught and the deceit of the heart’.”

                                                                                                          Jeremiah 14:13-14

Do not be dismayed by what you see; simply be faithful to proclaim what you hear.

Could there have been any greater agony of soul than Jeremiah’s having to continue prophesying against his fellow countrymen when the Lord had already told him to cease praying for them (7:16; 14:11)?  Such seems useless; yet, the Lord knew the Weeping Prophet’s tears and pleas would later be used as stinging indictments to finally bring them to repentance.

Equally agonizing is seeing and hearing all the false prophets and antichrists around us today, saying “Here!  I’m the one!” or “Don’t sweat it!  Those doomsday prophets are motivated by hate and don’t have a clue.  Eat, drink and be merry—for God wants us to have the best!”

So, on they “party hardy”. . .in all types of sinful debauchery. . . “eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage” (Mt. 24:38). . .with nary a care in the world.  They don’t worry about the bag lady down the street, sleeping on a piece of cardboard over a steam vent in the wintertime.  Neither do they lose any sleep over the barrenness of their own church, viewing it more as some type of religious social club than a spiritual ICU for the brokenhearted and “wounded warriors.”

But, beware of these false prophets of “health, wealth and prosperity,” dear Pilgrim.  Beware of those who disdain and discard the Cross and the One Who died there.  If God hated sin enough to have His “only begotten Son die there” (Jn. 3:16), He shall also look down with Divine displeasure on those who casually trod underfoot His precious Blood (Heb. 10:29).

The hour is late, dear one, and there’s a “sword in the land” (Ez. 33:1-9).  Know you not that “two shall be grinding at the mill—one shall be taken and the other left” (Mt. 24:41)?  Likewise, are not our lives “as a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away” (James 4:14)?

Woe to him/her that knows what the Lord has said, but still says “Ah, don’t worry about it!  You’ll not see the sword, neither have any famine.  Trust me—I know what I’m talking about!”

Have you a loved one or friend who’s not ready to meet his Maker?  Do not rest—for there’s a Sword in the land and only those who are prepared will weather the famine and escape the flood.  Go, tell them, Pilgrim.  If you don’t, who will?

Thanks,
