June 3 “God’s Restless Eyes”

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show
Himself strong in the behalf of them whose hearts is perfect toward Him. .
.”
II Chronicles 16:9a
He’s looking for us much more than we’re looking for Him.
Why did the God of the universe, Who spoke everything (except mankind)
into existence, reach down into the dust that day and form the first man
(Gen. 2:7)? Why did He notice “it’s not good that man should be alone and
create for him a helpmate” (Gen. 2:18)?

Was He lonely? Did He have nothing else to do after creating the
galaxies. . .the sun, star and moons. . .the mountains and the seas. . .the
birds and the bees. . .and decide to make a man to amuse Himself?

No, He created Adam and Eve (and us) for one simple reason:
Fellowship.
Again, He wasn’t lonely or bored. However, in a mysterious way that
only His sovereign mind can understand, He decided to create us to
fellowship with Him. And, oh how sweet that fellowship before sin entered
into the picture.

The Lord God commissioned Adam and Eve to rule over the Garden of Eden
(Gen. 1:28-30). He told them to “be fruitful and multiply, replenish the
earth and subdue it” (v.28); thus, even then He had us in mind—and how
beautiful this perfect plan of unity, harmony and fellowship.

But, then sin entered in (Gen. 3:6).
And, with it guilt and shame and heartache and brokenness and disease
and deformity and death. No doubt the Heavenly Father shed a tear that day
when Adam and Eve’s teeth sank into the forbidden fruit. And, like a loving
parent, He shed many tears that day when this first couple was forced to
leave Paradise, never to return until the Prince of Peace makes His final
appearance.

Yet, the Lord God would not be thwarted in His original plans.
Although sin may defile and delay His workings here-and-now, His Truth
is marching on. Even now, His “eyes are searching throughout the whole
earth for any whose hearts would rise up to meet Him in childlike faith.”
And, when He finds such a one, who comes to Him in faith and repentance, He
opens to them His Heavenly storehouse and enables them to become precious
and powerful instruments in His hands.

Oh, dear Pilgrim, how long has it been since you realized just how much
the Lord Jesus loves you? How long has it been since you remembered you
were that “lost sheep” for whom the Good Shepherd was searching (Lk.
15:4-6)?

“Seeking for me”—that’s the theme song of the Redeemed when we sing of
God’s love. There are still countless millions who cannot sing that song,
Pilgrim. Will you search for them even as the Lord of glory searched for
you?
