Subject: Morning Manna June 22: BP: Ps. 40; RBTTY: Acts 6; Esther 6-8

June 22                                                               “Always On His Mind”

“Many, O Lord, my God, are Your wonderful works, which You have done and Your thoughts which are to us.  They cannot be reckoned up in order unto You.  If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.”
                                                                                         Psalm 40:5
There’s never a moment when we’re not there.
     Obsessions.
We know something about them and, quite possibly, we may even have some ourselves.  Normally we look at them in a negative light, for they seem to be a abnormal controlling force in a person’s life.  We’ve all read horror stories about or known folks who suffered with these “obsessive-compulsive” disorders.

However, today’s Manna reveals that the Lord God, Who made everything that is, is basically obsessed with us!  Simply put, He can’t get us off His mind!  Glory!!  Why, then, is He so often so far from our thoughts?

Part of our difficulty in understanding these wondrous truths stems from our carnal and finite minds.  Most of us live in a helter-skelter way, one day being fascinated with this and the next day infatuated with that.  Too often we’re like the proverbial sailboat at sea, being driven by whichever breeze is blowing.

But, such is not the case with the Heavenly Father.  From the moment we’re conceived in our mother’s womb until we take our last breath on this earth, we’re on His mind.  His heart is touched when a little first grade child is scared to go to school on the first day.  His heart is grieved when He sees an orphaned child crying himself to sleep at night or a single mother wondering how she’s going to provide for her children’s needs on her minimum-wage, meager salary as a waitress in the local diner.

Yes, He cares more than we can ever know.
That’s why David said “His thoughts cannot be reckoned up in order (Heb. ‘arak’‘to set in a row, arranged, counted, etc.’).”  Why is that?  Simply because we’d run out of numbers before He’ll run out of loving thoughts toward us (Ps. 139:17-18).  Hallelujah!!

The evil one doesn’t want us to believe this, Pilgrim.  He wants us to think about God the way he does:  An evil, despotic tyrant, who delights in setting us up for failure. . . punishing us. . .raining on our parade.  And, sadly, by nature we’re prone to listen to him more than we are the One Who loves us more than we’ll ever know (Gen. 3:4-6; Rom. 8:6).

What would happen if we woke up in the morning, smiled and said “Good morning, Lord.  Thanks for watching over me during the night.  And, thanks for guiding me today and giving me what I’ll need when I need it”? Why, we might get up saying “It’s going to be a great day today!”  Well, in reality, that’s what it means to be “blessed” (v.4)for it springs from a childlike trust and assurance in the One with nail-scars in His hands.  He loves you, Pilgrim.  Rest in that today.
