March 1                                                                                                                 “Mercy Seat Meeting”

“And you shall put the mercy seat above upon the ark—and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you.  And there will I meet with you and I will commune with you from above the mercy seat. . .”

                                                                                                                                       Exodus 25:21-22a

In everything around us,

Whether seen or felt by hand,

The Lord is always present,

Including the ground upon which we stand.

With eyes we cannot see Him

And no ear can hear Him speak—

For it’s only when we’re created anew by Him,

That we feel Him in a valley or on a high, mountain peak.

Even there we cannot know Him

Until His Spirit comes to dwell within,

Forgiving us through the blood of Jesus

As He cleanses us from all our sin.

In days of old this “meeting place”

Was atop the ark’s golden cover,

Where two cherubim stood at either end

And with outstretched wings did hover.

Known then to men as the mercy seat,

On which the High Priest sprinkled blood,

It was the Dwelling Place of the Most High,”

Reserved for Almighty God up above.

But, one day the Father sent His Son

Down to this earth to die

Upon a Cross on Golgotha’s hill,

Outside of Jerusalem and raised so high.

When Jesus was nailed to the Cross that day

And shed His blood so pure,

It was only then that man could be cleansed from sin

And know of God’s forgiveness for sure.

How much He suffered as He hanged there that day,

To forgive us of our sin—

And the Cross became the new Mercy Seat and Meeting Place

Between God the Father and sinful men.
