December 25                                                                              "Just What We Needed"
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord."
                                                                                                                                                    Luke 2:11
The world slept so soundly that night
When the Savior of the world was born;
They were oblivious to His arrival,
But would later show Him hatred and scorn.

No entourage of rich men
Were present at His birth—
And even if they’d known He was coming
They still would have discounted His worth.

Yes, silence and snores were what greeted Him
That night in Bethlehem’s stall;
Only livestock and lowly shepherds
Would be present there at all.

Even now the world doesn’t know Him,
So busy with things are they,
That even if He was born in Bethlehem right now
They’d still refuse to kneel before Him and pray.

But, we shouldn’t grow discouraged
By others’ cold and callused ways—
For what’s really important about Christ’s birth
Is if we accept Him as Savior and Lord today.

No other One can cleanse us
From the dark stain of sin;
Neither can any force on earth deliver us
From the guilt we feel within.

Only Jesus, the Child in the Manger,
Can set the captive free;
That’s why He’s called the Savior of the world:
Christ, the Lord is He.

May we spend some time this day alone
In a time of praise and thanksgiving—
For Christmas is a time of rejoicing
Over a God Who loves us and is forgiving.
