Dear Agriculture,

landscape continues to change. But behind the numbers is also a story—about stewardship, hard work and the unending fight to protect the working lands that sustain us. Every minute two acres of farmland are lost to development. Too many farmers are being forced off the land as they are faced with development pressures that threaten our precious productive soils and our national security.

The Agriculture Census is a key tool for forging US farm and food policy in the years ahead. According to National Agriculture Statistic Service representative Carole House, “The information provided from the Census is really the voice of our nation’s farmers and ranchers. . . . They took the time to tell us about what’s happening in agriculture on a local and national level. That voice will be heard by policymakers and other agricultural stakeholders now and in the years ahead.”

Together we can make an impact, but we need your help to achieve substantial policy changes in 2009. Take action now to tell President Barack Obama that we must protect our farms, food and environment!

Sincerely,

American Farmland Trust
