Take Action to Support Agriculture's Role in Combating Climate Change

Dear Agriculture,

Farming Decisions

Take Action on
Climate Change

Take Action Now

This week it's critical to secure support in the House Agriculture and House Ways and Means Committee to better include agriculture in the Cap & Trade section of the Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. We need legislation that is written to maximize the participation of farmers and ranchers while minimizing their economic burden.

From an environmental perspective, maximizing agriculture’s role results in significant carbon benefits to the whole country and is a vital component for addressing global warming.

It’s not well known that the agriculture and forestry sectors can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by sequestering carbon on their lands more readily and cost-effectively, and on a larger scale, than other types of projects! That’s why it’s critical to secure the right legislation now

Several weeks ago, the House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the first draft of the bill—and it’s a good start to make sure that agriculture can help fight climate change. Now it’s time to make sure that these committees make additional improvements to the legislation before it goes to the House floor.

Farmers, ranchers and family foresters need your help to tell the House this week that changes are needed in this bill to make sure they can participate in fighting our biggest environmental challenges!

Sincerely,

Jimmy Daukas
